"We Shall Overcome" is a protest song that became a key anthem of the US civil rights movement in the 1940's. In 1999, editors at National Public Radio listed this song as one of the 100 most important American musical works of the 20th century. Since then, the song has attained the status of an international anthem for civil rights.
