Ravel, String Quartet in F-major
Beethoven, String Quartet in B-flat-major, Op. 133
After winning the 1990 Naumburg Chamber Music Award and the Gold Medal at Russia's Shostakovich Competition, the Lark has performed at top American and international venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kenney Center, and Library of Congress. They have commissioned and premiered works by Jennifer Higdon, Peter Schickele and Aaron Jay Kernis, whose String Quartet No. 2 won the Pulitzer Prize. Now in their 20th concert season, the women of this quartet enjoy a reputation as an ensemble of the highest artistic integrity and versatility. They recently recorded the complete Beethoven cycle for Arabesque.
"What [they] convey in terms of sound and style betrays none of the urban-aggressive stance assumed by many of their younger peers. [They] convincingly showed that grace, lyicism and a sense of order were what [Beethoven] valued most highly at the end." -- Los Angeles Times
