Named for the mythological hero called The Artful Craftsman, the Daedalus Quartet took flight in the summer of 2000 at the Marlboro Music Festival. They are perched high among America’s outstanding young string quartets, winning the Grand Prize and sweeping all the special prizes at the 2001 Banff International String Quartet Competition. Members hold degrees from Juilliard, Curtis, the Cleveland Institute and Harvard. Brother and sister violinists Kyu-Young and Min-Young Kim, who alternate on first violin, and cellist Raman Ramakrishnan grew up on Long Island. Violist Jessica Thompson is a Minneapolis native. Program: Henry Purcell’s Fantasias; Haydn’s String Quartet in C Major, Op. 20, No. 2; György Durtág’s Officium Breve in Memoriam Andrae Szervanszky, Op. 28; and Beethoven’s String Quartet in F Major, Op. 135.
