Pre-concert discussion with composer Jeffery Cotton at 6:45 p.m.
"Call and Response," the Cypress String Quartets outreach and concert series, was born of a commitment to present music as a dynamic and ongoing process of inspiration reaching across musical, social and historical boundaries. Working together with music presenters and educators, the Cypress creates a public forum for diverse communities to share the universal meaning of music. Each season, The Cypress premieres a commissioned string quartet written in response to older pieces. This season a new quartet by Boston-based composer Jeffery Cotton responds to Haydns String Quartet in G Major, Op. 33, No. 5 and Mozarts String Quartet in D minor, K.421. Cottons work has been called luscious and logical, affectionate and humorous "something truly different." New York Times.
